  • 1. What the **** is a YOUHANGIT?!

We thought you might ask that. Essentially, they are "blind" marking devices that allow you to mark the wall from behind the object you are hanging. ANY OBJECT! They were created to help you hang anything right the first time, and can be used to hang picture frames, mirrors, sound bars, bath decor, and so much more. They are so simple to use it's almost stupid how much fun it can be to hang stuff in your home now. Could this simple solution create a DIY revolution of easy-hanging crusaders? We think so, but then again we're a bit biased when it comes to our easy-to-use innovation that kicks ass!
Other picture hanging devices have tried, but they pick an arbitrary point on the wall (madness!), and they are extremely cumbersome. At YOUHANGIT, we set out to create a simple solution that is cost effective and that allows universal usage whether you need it for wire hangers, sawtooth hardware, keyholes, D-rings, and even hanging double keyholes. We wanted to allow our fans (and future fans) to overcome the dreaded task of hanging pictures and other wall hangings in the simplest way possible. How did our team accomplish this? It's as simple as peel, stick, level, squish! More on that last bit later.
The best part? Our flagship product, the Designer Kit, is so small that it tucks nicely in your kitchen drawer! Oh wait, there's more… we designed our packaging to be a reusable toolbox that could be refilled with the YOUHANGIT devices and hooks over and over, because we wanted to be eco-friendly too.

  • 2. What sparked the idea for an easy-to-use picture hanging tool that helps you hang it right the first time?

People tend to be visual and want to see and feel how their masterpiece is going to look on the wall before installing the picture hanging hardware. Everyone has experienced the trial and error inherent in hanging everything from artwork to sconces, resulting in failed attempts, frustration and multiple holes in the wall. Sadly, many frames and other wall decor live on the floor rather than the wall where they belong because of this age-old problem.
They say pain creates both innovation… and your partner’s honey-do list, which is how the YOUHANGIT marking device came to be.
Picture this: an innovative geek with a tool belt holding a honey-do list, a frame with double keyholes, and a blank wall. The creative possibilities are endless, but so is the madness!
Between necessity and a healthy dose of experience in the construction industry, the über handy YOUHANGIT series of wall hanging tools were born. Hanging home decor, like towel bars, curtain rods, mirrors, sconces, candelabras, and framed art, as well as hanging electronics for home theaters, like hanging surge protectors and sound bars, can take a tremendous amount of time. So, through years of rough prototypes, a simple and affordable solution finally evolved from the innovation geeks at YOUHANGIT. A solution to your wall hanging woes that requires no math or fractions, no measuring tapes or stealthy pencil marks on the wall, and no straight jackets or threats of divorce. YOUHANGITs do the measuring and the math for you so you can hang anything right the first time.

  • 3. Are YOUHANGITs reusable?

Absolutely—we designed YOUHANGITs to be used several times. The adhesive will last for several different hanging adventures. But, when you notice that the adhesive on the back of the YOUHANGIT is no longer sticking to your hanging hardware (whether it's a wire, keyhole, or sawtooth), discard the used YOUHANGIT and start with a fresh one.
Running out of YOUHANGITs? Not to worry! YOUHANGIT products are available on Amazon to replenish your Designer Kit, and our YHI fans love that they can tuck this reusable kit in any drawer for easy access.

  • 4. Are YOUHANGITs good house-warming gifts?

Um, is ice cream delicious? YOUHANGITs definitely make great housewarming gifts… unlike the other gifts that become white elephants during the holidays! We've all moved at least once in our lives, and one of the most daunting realizations strikes us when the moving crew arrives—a sea of bubble wrap cloaking our wall art and other wall hanging treasures that remind us of the challenges and frustrations about to hit us like a train—and not like the cool Guns N’ Roses “Night Train” tune, but like an actual train—with you tied to the tracks, helplessly flailing, begging for mercy. Let’s just never go through that experience again, mmmkay?
Hanging pictures and home decor can be time-consuming and draining, so friends and family will appreciate your thoughtfulness from the moment they hang their first picture with the YOUHANGIT system. It's the gift that keeps on giving, empowering people to have fun while adorning their walls with the decor and memories that welcome us into their new digs.

  • 5. What is the red part inside the YOUHANGIT?

We like to say, "Safety Third." Why, you ask? Because, unfortunately, somebody already coined the phrase "Safety First," and it sounds funny.
The red part you see peering out at you from within a YOUHANGIT is a small plug made out of rigid plastic that makes safety a priority. Red, the color associated with both caution and urgency, was a good way to get your attention. When placed inside the YOUHANGIT, the red safety plug prevents the sharp pointy thing from poking you wall hanging folk.
So, remember to follow the instructions—that means you too, fellas—and remove/replace the red safety plug into the YOUHANGIT as advised.

  • 6. How do I hang a picture with a YOUHANGIT?

Ding, ding, ding! You've asked the most popular question—time for double jeopardy! This is the number one thing people wonder about when they first see a YOUHANGIT. See that V-groove cut out on the top of the white squishy space age looking block? Line the bottom of the "V" up with the picture frame hardware (wire, keyhole, D-ring, or sawtooth) that is going to correspond with the hook or nail hanging your picture on the wall.
Stick the YOUHANGIT to the picture frame's hardware on the back of the item you are hanging; place the picture on the wall, and press. It's as easy as peel, stick, level, and SQUISH! The marks left by the YOUHANGIT provide the precise location for your picture hanging hardware on the wall.
To ensure your picture frame is level, simply slide the white plastic fin of the YOULEVEL in between the glass and the frame. Attach a YOUHANGIT to the frame's hardware on the back of the picture and remove the RED safety plug from the YOUHANGIT. If your frame has a wire, use a pen or pencil to pull it upward until the wire is firmly extended. The wire's highpoint, equidistant from the edges of the frame is where you will want to make a little dot on the back of your frame. This little dot mimics where the wire on the frame will rest on the hook (use one of our Sexy Metal Hooks if you are wise!)
Next, line up the V-groove with the dot you just made and stick the YOUHANGIT marking device right over your dot. Place your frame in the desired spot against the wall. Use the YOULEVEL to ensure the picture is straight, and then press gently into the wall. The YOUHANGIT will squish under the pressure, causing the sharp pointy thing inside to leave a small mark on the wall that indicates where to place your hardware. Insert a nail at the mark—or, align the bottom of a hook with the mark. If you have purchased the a kit that contains our Sexy Metal Hooks, you can choose a 10, 20, 30, 50, or even 100-pound hook to secure your framed art or photo to the wall. This way you know even the heaviest framed item you own will be secure. For added leveling and to ensure your art never goes crooked when someone walks up against it or during a massive rager at your house, use two Sexy Metal Hooks in tandem to hang wires on.
Don't forget to replace the red safety plug and remove the YOUHANGIT from the back of your item! Hang your picture on the wall using the hands-free YOULEVEL to make sure it's well hung.
Depending on the frame's hardware, you may end up using two YOUHANGITs for multiple sawtooths or keyholes. Remember to use screws with drywall anchors (not included) if your frame has keyholes. Check out this how to hang double keyholes video and learn how to get it done.

  • 7. How do I hang framed art with a YOUHANGIT?

YOUHANGITs are as simple as it gets when it comes to DIY projects or hanging literally anything. See that V-groove cut out on the top of the white squishy space age style rectangular block? Line the bottom of the "V" up with your frame's hardware (wire, keyhole, sawtooth, or D-ring) that is going to correspond with the hook or nail hanging your framed art on the wall. Stick the YOUHANGIT to the hardware on the back of the item you’re hanging; place the framed art on the wall, and press until you feel the classic “squish” associated with success. It's as easy as peel, stick, level, and SQUISH! The marks left by the YOUHANGIT provide the exact position for your picture hanging hardware to go on your wall.
Need a wee bit more info? No problem.
Next, you’re going to slide the YOULEVEL’s paper thin fin in between the glass and frame of your art piece. Then, attach a handy-dandy YOUHANGIT to the back of the frame (over the keyholes, sawtooths, D-rings, or where the wire will rest when puled taut) and remove the RED safety plug from the YOUHANGIT.
If your frame has a wire, use a pen or pencil to pull it up until the wire is no longer slack on either side of the frame. At the top of where the wire is when fully extended, halfway between either edge is where you’ll want to make your pencil mark on the back of your framed artwork. This little mark indicates where the wire on the frame will eventually hang on the hook.
Now, line up the V-groove with the dot and stick the YOUHANGIT marking device. Place the art wherever you want it. Use the YOULEVEL to ensure the art is straight, and then press gently towards the wall. The YOUHANGIT will squish under pressure, causing the sharp pointy thing inside to leave a small mark on the wall: this is where any hardware you use will go. Insert a nail at the mark--or, align the bottom of a hook with the mark.
Don't forget to replace the red safety plug and remove the YOUHANGIT from the back of your item! Hang your framed art on the wall; using the hands-free YOULEVEL to make sure it's well hung.
Depending on the frame's hardware you may end up using two YOUHANGITs for multiple sawtooths or keyholes. Remember to use screws with drywall anchors (not part of the YOUHANGIT wall hanging system) if your frame has keyholes.

  • 8. How do I hang a mirror with a YOUHANGIT?

This one is important, as no one needs seven years of bad luck, and now that YOUHANGIT makes it fun to hang mirrors right the first time no one has to wait seven years to get it hung.
To hang your mirror perfectly, line the bottom of the "V" on the YOUHANGITs up with the top apex of the keyhole or sawtooth as this corresponds with the hooks or screw anchors the mirror will eventually hang on. Hold the mirror against the wall, and when the desired position is found, press the mirror into the wall. Place your wall hanging hardware in the locations marked by the sharp pointy things and hang!
    Need more details?
The top fin of the YOULEVEL slides easily between the glass mirror and the frame, making it simple to hang your mirror perfectly straight like a pro. Attach a YOUHANGIT to the back of the mirror where the hardware is, lining up the V-groove with the top of the keyhole or sawtooth. Remove the RED safety plug from the YOUHANGIT. If your mirror has a wire, use a pen or pencil to pull the wire skyward until it is taut. When holding the wire tight, equidistant from the mirror’s edges, draw a dot on the back of your framed mirror. This dot tells you where the wire on the frame will rest on the hook once hung. Line up the V-groove with the dot and stick the YOUHANGIT marking device.
Using the YOULEVEL, make sure the mirror is straight and in the desired location before pressing it against the wall. The YOUHANGIT will smoosh under the pressure, causing the sharp pointy thing inside to leave a small mark on the wall that indicates where to place your mirror hanging hardware. Because of the weight of most mirrors, it is recommended that a hook is used rather than a single nail. Then again, the best thing to use for wire hanging mirrors—even the heaviest ones—is the Sexy Metal Hook from YOUHANGIT: these can handle weights from as little as 10 pounds to as much as 100 pounds, and they are available in our Designer Kit, sold on our Website as well as on Amazon.
Align the bottom of a hook with the mark left by the YOUHANGIT to install the hook. Don't forget to replace the red safety plug and remove the YOUHANGIT from the back of your item! Hang the mirror on the wall, and once it's up, use the YOULEVEL to make a few fine-tuned adjustments. Depending on the mirror frame's hardware, you may end up using two YOUHANGITs for multiple sawtooths or keyholes. Remember to use screws with drywall anchors (not included) if your frame has keyholes.

  • 9. How do I hang a towel bar with a YOUHANGIT?

Towel bars are tricky! Thankfully, the YOUHANGIT team took towel bars into consideration during the inventing process and pumped out a freakishly genius thing called the YOULEVEL with accompanying rubber bands to help you “straighten things out.”
Towel bars require the perfect installation of the manufacturer's hardware on each end of the bar. The trick to using YOUHANGITs to hang a towel bar is to make sure the V-groove on each YOUHANGIT is lined up with the mounting holes. This is where the manufacturer's hardware is placed, anchoring the towel bar to the wall. Use the YOULEVEL to make sure the towel bar is perfectly level and press the YOUHANGIT devices into the wall. The marks left by the YOUHANGITs indicate where to place the manufacturer's drywall anchors for mounting.
For a more comprehensive review, read on…
That freakishly genius YOULEVEL earns its moniker, because it straddles the bar and it's hands-free! How? Each YOULEVEL includes rubber bands, offered in two sizes to accommodate smaller and bigger bars. Loop one end of the rubber band around the small knob or pivot on one side of the YOULEVEL. Wrap the band around the towel bar, and then re-loop it over the same pivot on the YOULEVEL. Repeat this same step-by-step on the other end of the hands-free level. The YOULEVEL is now secure and hands-free! Attach your YOUHANGITs to each end of the towel bar. Remove the RED safety plugs from the YOUHANGITs. Level the bar with the YOULEVEL, then press the towel bar into the wall to leave small marks at either end of the bar.
Don't forget to replace the red safety plugs and remove the YOUHANGITs from the back of the bar! Use the marks left on the wall by the sharp pointy things to place the hanging hardware and hang your towel bar perfectly.
Be sure to check the box of your towel bar, as most manufacturers will include the mounting screws with drywall anchors for your convenience.

  • 10. How do I hang a curtain rod with a YOUHANGIT?

Q: What's long, hard to hang, and more often than not gets thrown across the room like a driver on the 9th hole?
    A: curtain rod
YOUHANGITs make hanging curtain rods a snap, so you can liberate your clubs and still make your tee time (or tea time, it’s your life). Use a YOUHANGIT on each anchor point of the curtain rods mounting brackets, lining up the V-grooves with the holes. Once you have attached the hands-free YOULEVEL, you will be prepped to mark the wall. Press the mounting brackets of the curtain rod into the wall with the YOULEVEL in place. The YOUHANGIT devices will squish, leaving the perfect marks to place the wall anchor hardware.
    More details:
Attach two YOUHANGITs to the wall mounting brackets on each end of the curtain rod. Remove the RED safety plugs from the YOUHANGITs. Take the YOULEVEL and place it on top of the curtain rod. Loop one end of the rubber band around the small grip on one side of the YOULEVEL. Wrap the band all the way around the curtain rod, and then re-loop it over the same grip on the YOULEVEL. Repeat this step-by-step on the other end of the level.
Ensure the curtain rod is straight above the window (as well as being level according to the bubble inside the hands-free YOULEVEL), and then press against the wall to leave two small marks. This may require a friend if you are hanging longer curtain rods, making sure to squish the YOUHANGITs simultaneously, causing the sharp pointy things to leave small marks that perfectly locate where to fasten the curtain rod's mounting brackets. Don't forget to put back the red safety plugs into the YOUHANGITs and remove your YOUHANGITs from the mounting brackets—this is crucial for both mounting and safety.
Now you are ready to place your wall hanging hardware, and hang your curtain rod! Be sure to check the box the curtain rod came in, as most manufacturers will include the screws with drywall anchors. If not, a quick jaunt to the local hardware store is in order—and make sure you bring the specs of what you’re hanging with you so personnel there can help accordingly.

  • 11. How do I hang speakers and sound bars with a YOUHANGIT?

You will hang speakers like Jimi Hendrix played guitar. In case you’re not aware, that means awesomely.
Place the YOUHANGITs on the back of your speakers or sound bars, where the mounting keyholes are located. Line the bottom of the "V" up with the top apex of the keyhole as this corresponds with the wall mounted screw anchor that the speaker will eventually hang on. Remove the red safety plugs from the YOUHANGITs. You may be able to use the YOULEVEL, although speakers and sound bars come in variety of shapes and sizes, so we've had to get creative with attaching the YOULEVEL, depending on the manufacturer.
Upon leveling the speaker or the sound bar, apply a gentle, equal pressure to the YOUHANGIT marking devices. This will cause them to squish into the wall, leaving little marks created by the sharp pointy things inside of the YOUHANGIT devices. You will then use these marks to place the screw anchors into the wall and hang your speakers or sound bar.
Don't forget to replace the red safety plugs and remove the YOUHANGITs from the back of your speakers and/or sound bar! Be sure to check the box your electronics came in, as many manufacturers will include the mounting screws with drywall anchors for your convenience. If not, make sure you speak to someone who knows what s/he is talking about at your local hardware store.

  • 12. How do I hang surge protectors with a YOUHANGIT?

No one enjoys looking at the bundle of wires under a desk, reminiscent of that episode of the Simpsons in which Homer shorts out the entire neighborhood. That's why Team YHI found another way to use the YOUHANGIT. Got a surge protector? It will hang friends! Hell, it's as easy as peel, stick, level, and squish! Here's how…
Place the YOUHANGITs on the back of the surge protector, where the mounting keyholes are located. Line the bottom of the "V" up with the top apex of the keyhole as this corresponds with the wall mounted screw anchor that the surge protector will eventually hang on. Remove the RED safety plugs from the YOUHANGITs. You may be able to use the YOULEVEL, although surge protectors come in array of shapes and sizes, and we've gotten creative with attaching the YOULEVEL, depending on the manufacturer. That said, if you use the larger of the rubber bands included with the YOULEVEL in the Designer Kit, you might very likely have great results.
Upon leveling the surge protector, apply a gentle and equal pressure to the YOUHANGIT marking devices. This will cause them to squish into the wall, leaving small marks created by the sharp pointy things inside the YOUHANGITs. Use theses marks to place the screw anchors into the wall and hang your surge protector. Don't forget to replace the red safety plugs and remove the YOUHANGITs from the back of the item!
